[The Scheme] (1997) features a Prussian blue chessboard paper with golden lines of demarcation on it, around which no chess piece can be seen but only a set of keys on a key chain of a golden mask. It is probably implying that one’s life has followed a preordained direction. No sooner do people make the first move in a chess game, than they are destined to follow a limited number of path; and perhaps wearing a mask is the price to get the key to the world they yearn for in the end.
