In [Spirit Dreaming Conjuration] (2004), this was the first time that I used the 3D computer software, changing from the staged settings to a dreamlike world. Although I capitalized on digital technique, the concept of this artwork was derived from Taiwanese folklore.
In this artwork, it seems that two men kiss a “woman” and the “woman” enjoys the feeling of hugs and kisses. Through the visual illusion, it may look like three figures; in fact, only one figure embraces himself tightly, however.
[Spirit Dreaming Conjuration] (2004) continues the exploration of sexual imagination. The story involves males and females in modern society without love but desire for love. They wish to meet the right one, even spending all of their lifetime on a long search for the right one of their dreams. Since ancient times in Taiwanese society, many ordinary people have tied red lines or gone to temples to pray for “The Chinese God of Marriage” resembling Aphrodite or Venus, the goddess of love. According to traditional beliefs, these approaches have led to many males and females, who come wishing for love and good luck, to have their dreams come true. Besides, by saying their prayers, males and females will meet the one with whom they fall in love secretly in their dreams. Therefore, by the portrait photography combined with digital images that I manipulate on a computer, I want to create a modern “black comedy” that males and females desire their lovers to appear in their dreamlike world.
