SOLO──Lee Ming-Chung presents 12 works by Lee Ming-Chung that were exhibited in his solo exhibitions "Lee Ming-Chung IX - Impressions of Time and Events: The Reorganization of the Natural Order in Chaos" in 2006 and "Lee Ming-Chung XI" in 2008.
Born in Taipei in 1961, Lee Ming-Chung is widely regarded as a leading figure of the "E Generation" in Taiwan's contemporary art scene. A founding member of Hantoo Art Group, he has held and participated in over thirty solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally.
Lee Ming-Chung's keen perception, poetic romanticism, and imaginative ability have led him to create a series of untranslatable symbols from the mundane microcosms of everyday life. He decorates his narrative paintings with these extraordinary visual elements and vivid colors by constantly exploring and experimenting with the details of life.
The unique narrative qualities of Lee's oeuvre allow the concrete and abstract forms in his images to overlap and surround the narrative context through gaps in time and space. It is difficult to discern the exact causal relationships between the building blocks of the vivid and fantastical images he creates, which exist only in the realm of personal imagination.
Lee Ming-Chung's painting techniques and color palettes imbue his works with a sense of freedom, lightness, and playfulness, reflecting the artist's personality and philosophy of life, as he attempts to capture the subtle changes and perceptions of everyday life.
Through his paintings, the audience does not see the world as Lee Ming-Chung does, but rather his understanding of the shapes of the world.
