About Work

In the work [Confetti] (1994), a handsome young man sits upright in the middle of the composition. The artist’s accolade of ideal physique finds expression in his depiction of the protagonist’s facial features and skin texture. Nevertheless, his emotional expression is quite restrained, letting the confetti fall from the air unostentatiously. Besides, the model’s sitting posture, the way his hands are folded, the downward angle of his line of sight, and the blue cloth draping around his lower body are collectively reminiscent of the young Siddhartha Gautama, which suggests that this work seeks not only to eulogize the beauty of youth, but also to make a spiritual pilgrimage.
