[My Universities III - Me & Us (Location & Gender)] is a piece of Chen’s Taipei Series.

Chen observed a curious phenomenon in the college of fine arts she teaches in: most of the students are female, while most of the teachers are male. The artist combined the floor plans of all the faculty offices in the college building, displaying them on a single plane with a common color differentiation between male teachers’ offices (powder-blue) and female teachers’ (pink). The front view and the bird’s eye view were juxtaposed in a single composition, which eliminated the differences between high and low, large and small, as well as between male and female, since all these offices were represented in a 2-D fashion. Chen additionally drew a plan of her own office, with particular emphasis on the square grid over the terrazzo floor. The grid implied Chen’s (physical) position in the college and her shelter for reflection and research. The red color emblematized her passion and energy for work.
