The subject of sea has come up frequently in Lin’s oeuvre. He transcribes natural spaces into poetic, minimalist compositions by reducing, restructuring and stacking his memories. Deriving his inspiration from the imagery of ripple, pebble and island, he intends not so much to simulation or representation as to “transmute original ‘scenes’ into an ideal world of fantasies by borrowing the images from abstract creative vocabulary and then applying the techniques of juxtaposition and reorganization.”

The so-called “scenes” refer to physical scenery, and the so-called “world of fantasies” denotes a wonderland of extreme tranquility.
