In terms of artistic creation, a poetic, minimalist context is established through philosophical expression. To put it another way, a pure realm is created within a faintly discernible space by means of ingenious transformation, brushwork and layout. The artist infuses his nostalgic memories of the sea in his hometown into his contemporary post-minimalist style, in which the spiritual energy of his minimalist art finds expression. The heaviness and sorrow that haunted the times are thus dispelled, and a brand new visual image of the mind is therefore built up.

As a fine collection of Lin’s recent works, the solo exhibition hosted by the Main Trend Gallery is intended to explore the metaphysical choices made in face of the eternally unpredictable waiting and state in his life. In these paintings, the artist employs the technique of memory transcription in order to mirror the beckoning seascape in his mind. Laying out the serene, he tries to reinterpret the seascape in his memory after his voyage through minimalist imbrication of pigment and methodical repetition of writing, and thereby investigates the connection between and representation of visibility and meditation in memory, and meanwhile demonstrates his non-flat observation of and response to the society in due course.

Separating the wheat from the chaff by continual simplification, Lin seeks to develop a sense of tranquility approaching “zero” in his works, similar to the mental state of “voidness” in Zen Buddhism capable of purifying the mind.

The greatest charm of Lin’s works is the lingering poetic atmosphere and the psychological absorption that lures the viewers into the vast voidness. We can enter the artist’s poetic realm as long as we meditate with rapt attention.
